BLUEDEVILS NINTH GRADE TEAM CAPS FINAL
SEASON GAME WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER PEACHTREE RIDGE LIONS 33-14
After the close opening loss to North Gwinnett, the blue devils reeled off six straight very impressive wins. Anyone observing from the stands saw a huge difference from game one to game seven. Congratulations to the entire team and a fantastic coaching staff. First quarter action saw the lions fumble the opening kickoff, and within three minutes Devin Simpkins scored ,the PAT was no good, and it was 6-0. On the ensuing kickoff, the lions returned the ball all the way for a touchdown. Their PAT was no good and we were tied 6-6. On the blue devils next series a tipped pass was intercepted and returned to the norcross five yard line. A couple plays later and a two point conversion and the lions led 14-6 after one quarter. Second quarter action saw the blue devils have a long drive turned over on downs. The Lions took over but the defense held, and the blue devils were back in action after a short punt. Two plays later Barker hit Jared Pinkney on 25yd scoring strike, and a two pt PAT was good and we were tied 14-14.On the ensuing kickoff, the defense held again, and forced a punt which backed up Norcross to the 20 yd line. A long grinding drive and solid run game saw Simpkins again get the call from 3yds out and the new score was 21-14 at the half. Third quarter saw the blue devils march down the field eating up clock, but again turned over the ball to the lions on downs. But the Lions could not move the ball against the blue devils defense, and after a punt Norcross took over at midfield. With the offensive line leaning on the defense, the Payton and Simpkins tandem moved the ball to the three yd line, where Simpkins scored making the score 27-14 with under 4:00 minutes in the quarter. With the Lions trying to make a drive late in the quarter a fumble occurred and the blue devils were again back in business. Fourth quarter action saw Norcross continue to move the ball at will, and Rudy Gullien went over from three yards out and the score was 33-14. The defense again shut down the Lions and Norcross ran out the clock with the continued dominating run game.
